Busiest mailing day of the year: how you can stand out

According to the U.S. Postal Service, today is the busiest mailing day of the year. Almost one billion pieces of mail will pass through post offices today.

How can you make sure your holiday greetings stand out? It’s simple: DON’T mail your cards today!

That’s my strategy. This year I’m sending Happy New Year cards to my professional contacts. I’m hoping people will see the cards as a post-holiday treat when they return to their offices in January.

Have you sent your cards yet? What kind of cards do you send? Share your thoughts!

    Lindsey:

I also like to send cards for the new year. Some might argue this means I can’t get my cards out earlier, but I like to think of it as being unique and thoughtful. I usually sit down to write out cards in the quiet few days *after* Christmas, and I hope that they are received and read by my friends and colleagues in a less hurried state.

Great idea! Another suggestion is to simply send handwritten notes, postcards, and thank-you cards at random times throughout the year to professional contacts. An unexpected letter in the mail always stands out…
