Amplifying Black Women’s Voices

This is not a time of business as usual.

Like so many of you, over the past few weeks I’ve been dedicating significant time and attention to supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, learning more about and from Black Americans and taking action to promote and financially support the organizations working for racial justice in our country.

As a white woman, I own that my action and attention are way too little way too late. I stand unequivocally with the Black community and want to publicly share some of the actions I am taking to be a more active and vocal ally now and in the future.

First, as an author and book lover, I’ve committed to now buying all hard copy books from Black-owned bookstores. Here is a list, and I’d love to hear about your personal favorites.

My reading list of books on race, anti-racism and the Black experience is long and growing, and I’ll continue to share book reflections on social media and in the newsletter. Your book recommendations and reviews are always welcome and appreciated.

Over the past two weeks, I’ve also added significantly more Black voices to my social media feeds, especially those of Black women. You’ll see a list of recommended voices on Instagram below – some I’ve followed for years and some I’m just getting to know, with a focus on my professional sphere of women authors, creators, entrepreneurs, coaches and speakers (the list is in alphabetical order).

In an effort to support Black women, I’m asking you to follow at least five women below and consider buying at least one book by a Black author from a Black-owned bookstore.

Thank you for reading this newsletter. All feedback is welcome and appreciated.

Best,

Lindsey
